An illustrated lecture “RESTORING MONUMENTS, RESTORING MEMORIES” by Dr. Laurent Dissard on Thursday May 29th, 2014 at 7:30pm On Thursday, May 29th, Dr. Laurent Dissard will give an illustrated lecture, “Restoring Monuments, Restoring Memories “at 7:30p.m. at Ararat-Eskijian Museum-Sheen Chapel 15105 Mission Hills Road, Mission Hills Ca, 91345. Dr. Laurent Dissard in his presentation will review the state of Armenian Cultural Heritage in Eastern Turkey today by discussing three specific case studies, namely the Surp Giragos Church in Diyarbakır/Tigranakert, the Habap Fountains of Ekinözü/Havav, and the village of Vakıflı Köyü/Vak’if, and a brief video presentation of the construction of the Surp Giragos Church. Dr. Laurent Dissard received his PhD in 2011 from the University of California, Berkeley in Near Eastern Studies. He was most recently an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Penn Humanities Form. He is currently living in Istanbul writing a book manuscript titled Submerged Stories: Dams and Cultural Erasure in Eastern Turkey and regularly writes about the politics of the past in the Middle East on his website Past & Present.
